Yoga Preparation

On June 21, 2016 by Benny Shamlou

Yoga is practiced with bare feet, an empty stomach and non-restrictive clothes suitable for stretching. Have a clean mat and towel helps us keep the room clean. It is your responsibility to inform the teacher of pregnancy, any injuries or other medical issues.

Train yourself to drink water during the day to be well hydrated instead of drinking just before or during class. Please refrain from use of cologne, perfume or other scents. Some people are allergic and sensitive to certain scents.

Please don’t enter or leave the room during the chants, savasana and meditation. You may do so in between poses and do your best not to disturb the energy in the room at any time. When using studio mats, please remember to wipe your mat after class with provided sanitizing solution.

“OM…Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” X3

“OM Shanti, shanti, shanti”

Mantra: word by word

lokah: location, realm, all universes existing now.
samastah: all beings sharing that same location
sukhino: centered in happiness and joy, free from suffering
bhav: the divine mood or state of unified existence
antu: may it be so, it must be so (antu used as an ending here transforms this mantra into a powerful pledge)
In the expansiveness of this mantra – we all become one.  As we chant and our hearts expand, we contain and collapse into the heart of the Universe.  One rhythm that is breathtaking in its simplicity.
This mantra also calls us to look mindfully at our thoughts, words and actions.  Are we truly contributing to the happiness of all beings?  What does that look like in our lives and how can we expand it with love?  The lokah mantra will now be included in my daily practice – I like the idea of adding it to the end of my meditation as a heartfelt closing.  Inviting more love, happiness, freedom, gratitude and compassion into our daily lives can only have a positively exponential impact on our lives and in the world.  As well, this mantra is the perfect way to pray and INSPIRE CHANGE in our world.
